Congressman Mike Haridopolos Honors Two Vero Beach Natives on the House Floor

February 27, 2025

Washington, D.C. – This week, Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08) took to the house floor to honor two Vero Beach natives, Colonel Anthony Young and Judie Kent, whose service and courageous actions define the best of our community.

Colonel Anthony Young has a long history of service in the United States Military. As President of the Indian River Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, Tony spearheaded the creation of a permanent memorial for local WWII veterans. The Congressman also honored Judie Kent, a nurse from Vero beach who recently jumped into action and saved a motorcyclist who had crashed on the side of the road.

“Colonel Anthony Young’s dedication to honoring our veterans and Judie Kent’s lifesaving bravery embody the very best of our community. It’s a privilege to recognize these local heroes on the House floor and to shine a light on the heroes among us—those who serve, sacrifice, and step up when it matters most,” said Congressman Haridopolos.

I rise today to honor the extraordinary bravery of Judie Kent, a young woman and nurse from my district in Vero Beach, Florida.

This past week, Judie’s quick thinking and courageous actions saved the life a motorcyclist and father of five who was struck by a car on his way to work.

As she drove past the past the scene Judie instinctively pulled over and used her medical knowledge to administer critical aid.

Her swift response stabilized his wounds, and she is credited with saving the man’s leg, and possibly even his life. It is selfless acts like these that exemplify the best of our community, and I am honored to recognize Judie’s heroism here today.

Mr. Speaker, it is my privilege to share her story, and I thank her for her service and resolve.
