Congressman Haridopolos: “One Big Beautiful Bill” is a win for Florida families, workers

America voted for change last November, and now we’re delivering it. Over the past four years, families have been hit with rising prices, shrinking paychecks, and a government that grew too big and too careless with your tax dollars. People are working harder than ever, but they’re falling behind. That’s not right, and that’s why my Republican colleagues and I in Congress are fighting hard to pass the “One Big Beautiful Bill”.

This bill is about getting back to basics: Rewarding work, cutting waste, and putting American families first.

One of the most important parts of this bill is making the Trump tax cuts from 2017 permanent. The economy we had before COVID was the strongest in modern history, thanks to the growth those tax cuts unleashed. If we don’t act, those cuts will expire at the end of the year. That would mean a massive tax hike on families, small businesses, and workers across Florida who are already dealing with high prices. By passing this bill and locking them in, we’re making sure working Americans don’t get punished with higher taxes just because Washington couldn’t get its act together.

If you’re a senior living on a fixed income, this bill brings real relief. It creates a new $4,000 tax deduction for anyone over the age of 65 who earns less than $75,000 a year. That deduction means you’ll owe less in taxes and keep more of your retirement income in your bank account, where it belongs. You spent a lifetime working, paying taxes, and contributing to Social Security. You earned those benefits, and now we’re making sure that you get to keep more of what you’ve earned.

If you’re a parent raising kids, we’re helping you too. The child tax credit will increase to $2,500 per child, putting more money directly into the hands of families who need it most. For families with newborns, this bill creates a new optional savings account with a $1,000 seed contribution to help jumpstart your child’s future. Raising a family is tough, but incredibly rewarding. This bill helps make it more affordable.

One of President Trump’s biggest campaign promises was no tax on tips and no tax on overtime. This bill makes good on that promise. If you’re picking up extra shifts, working late, or earning tips to make ends meet, you shouldn’t be punished with a bigger tax bill. This bill ensures those extra earnings stay in your pocket, not Washington’s. It’s a win for waiters, bartenders, nurses, police officers, and so many others who put in the time to keep our country running.

We’re also securing our southern border once and for all. President Trump made history by reducing illegal border crossings by over 97% in just a few months. But we know future administrations could undo that progress unless we act now. This bill finishes the wall and adds new barriers, advanced surveillance technology, and more support for Border Patrol and ICE. A secure border means a safer America.

Let me be crystal clear: There are NO changes to Social Security or Medicare benefits. These are promises made to the American people, and we’re protecting them. What we are fixing is Medicaid, a program that is too important and too strained for us to ignore. Right now, over a million illegal immigrants are getting Medicaid, taking resources away from citizens who truly need it. This bill puts an end to that and cracks down on waste and fraud. We’re making sure Medicaid serves those it was meant for: Disabled Americans, low-income families, pregnant women, and seniors. That also means no more free rides for able-bodied adults who can work but choose not to. If you're healthy and able, it’s time to contribute and let this program serve only those who need it.

Sadly, Democrats have tried to claim that this is just a tax cut for the rich. That’s simply not true. The top tax rate stays right where it is, at 37%. This bill doesn’t help the wealthy. It helps the waitress in Cocoa Beach, the nurse in Melbourne, the retiree in Sebastian, and the dad driving a truck through Titusville.

The One Big Beautiful Bill is about doing what’s right: lowering taxes, securing our border, protecting your benefits, and making sure your tax dollars are spent wisely. I ran for Congress to help get this country back on track and to give working families a fair shot with a government that respects their hard work, and that’s why I’m backing this bill. It delivers real relief, puts more money back in your pocket, and helps you build the life you want for yourself and your family. Delivering results for Americans is what this bill is all about, and that’s what I’ll keep fighting for every single day.
