U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos Highlights Early Legislative Wins On Border Security, Economic Relief - Florida's Voice
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos outlined his legislative priorities, emphasizing border security and economic relief, as Congress begins its new session.
Haridopolos expressed satisfaction with the early progress, particularly the passage of a key border security bill.
“My number one priority is securing the border, and I’m happy to report that that’s one of the first things we did in the first week,” Haridopolos said during an interview on Florida’s Voice with Drew Steele. “We made sure that the bill ensures if you commit a crime, and I would say an additional crime while here in the United States as an illegal alien, you’ll be detained and deported. That is so important.”
The legislation, referred to as the Laken Riley Act, gained bipartisan support, with even some Democrats voting in favor. Haridopolos praised the shift, calling it “nice to see the change.”
Beyond immigration, Haridopolos stressed the importance of advancing President-elect Trump’s economic policies.
“Second thing that we are of course looking at is how do we get the Trump agenda moving forward? That means tax cuts and that means reducing the cost of living for everyday Americans for gasoline, rent, groceries, etc.,” he said.
Haridopolos expressed optimism about the direction Congress is heading, saying, “I’m glad to see that we are starting to move in that direction.”
