Congressman Mike Haridopolos Secures Trade Relief to Protect Hundreds of Piper Aircraft Jobs in Vero Beach

May 7, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, TC Palm reported that Piper Aircraft will continue its operations without layoffs thanks to a successful effort by Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08) to confirm  trade exemptions and protect hundreds of high-paying manufacturing jobs in Vero Beach. Congressman Haridopolos, who worked closely with Piper leadership and federal officials, applauded the outcome as a major win for Florida workers and the local economy.

This kind of problem-solving matters,” said Piper Aircraft CEO John Calcagno in a statement to TC Palm. “It keeps American manufacturers competitive. It protects skilled labor. And in this case, it made a direct difference for our community here on the Treasure Coast. As a result, our workers can keep doing what they do best—building world-class aircraft that reflect the skill, dedication, and ingenuity of American manufacturing. This was government at its best: responsive, informed, and focused on solving a real-world problem in our community. Congressman Haridopolos made sure our voice was heard, and his work helped deliver a result that benefits not just Piper, but the entire region.”

Piper Aircraft, headquartered in Vero Beach, employs over 1,100 people and produces a range of aircraft used globally for training, commercial, and personal aviation. Piper’s presence supports not only direct manufacturing jobs but also hundreds of additional positions in the regional supply chain, making it a crucial part of the Treasure Coast’s economy.

Earlier this year, Piper faced the prospect of significant job losses due to potential tariff impacts on materials critical to its production lines. Congressman Haridopolos and his team engaged directly with Piper executives and federal trade authorities to advocate for targeted relief that would protect the company’s workforce while upholding the nation’s broader trade policy goals.

“Piper Aircraft is an essential part of Vero Beach’s economy and Florida’s proud manufacturing tradition,” said Congressman Haridopolos. “When I found out that these jobs were at risk, we got to work. My team worked with Piper’s leadership and the Trump administration to make sure these skilled, hardworking Floridians would not feel uncertainty as we fight to level the playing field for American workers.”

“This was about standing up for Florida workers and sending a clear message: Manufacturing jobs matter. I’m grateful for the Trump administration’s quick action and partnership to protect this cornerstone of our local economy. I’m proud we delivered results that will keep Florida families working and our economy growing.”

The successful outcome was reported this morning by TCPalm, which detailed the collaborative effort that preserved hundreds of local jobs and strengthened the long-term prospects of the Treasure Coast’s growing manufacturing sector.
