Congressman Mike Haridopolos Votes “Yes” on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.

January 14, 2025

Today, Congressman Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) joined his Republican colleagues in the House and voted in support of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025. This landmark legislation is a critical step to ensuring that women and girls continue to have equal opportunities in athletics, free from the unfair advantage of biological males competing in women’s sports.

“Women and girls fought long and hard for the right to compete fairly in sports,” said Rep. Haridopolos. “Title IX opened doors that had been closed for far too long, and we will not allow those doors to be closed again. This bill is a declaration that women deserve to compete on a level playing field, free from unfair competition. As the father of two girls in sports, I am proud to stand with my colleagues to protect women’s sports and ensure that their rightful place in athletics is safeguarded for years to come.”

The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 reinforces the protections established by Title IX by clarifying that participation in sports must be based on a person’s biological and genetic sex at birth. It ensures that female athletes will not be displaced by male competitors, preserving fairness, safety, and equal opportunity for women in every sport. The passage of this bill is a decisive action to defend women’s sports from being compromised by policies that would erase the hard-won gains of Title IX.
