Haridopolos Votes to Advance Landmark Bill Delivering Tax Relief, Border Security, and Conservative Reforms
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08) voted to advance the One Big Beautiful Bill in the House of Representatives. This landmark legislation, championed by President Trump and House Republican leadership, delivers on key promises to strengthen America’s economy, provide tax relief to hardworking families, and secure our borders.
“Today, we took a major step forward in keeping the promises we made to the American people,” said Congressman Haridopolos. “This bill delivers the tax relief Americans need, the border security they deserve, and the economic future our children depend on. We’re cutting taxes on tips and overtime, protecting seniors on fixed incomes, and putting an end to wasteful handouts for those who break our laws. These are real changes that will make life better for working families across Florida and across the country. I’m proud to stand with President Trump and my House Republican colleagues to move this bold, conservative agenda forward.”
The bill includes major provisions championed by House Republicans and President Trump, including:
- Making the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent, preventing a looming tax hike that would hit working families and small businesses next year. Without action, the average taxpayer in Central Florida was facing a 23% increase in their federal tax bill.
- A new $4,000 tax deduction for seniors over the age of 65 making less than $75,000 per year. This provision helps millions of retirees, especially those on fixed incomes, keep more of what they’ve earned.
- Elimination of federal taxes on tips and overtime, fulfilling a major campaign promise by President Trump. This means more take-home pay for service workers, nurses, first responders, and others putting in extra hours to support their families.
- An expanded child tax credit of $2,500 per child, along with the creation of a $1,000 seed savings account for every newborn. Measures designed to help families thrive and plan for the future.
- Major investments in border security, including funding to finish the border wall, expand border surveillance capabilities, and boost staffing for Border Patrol and ICE. These provisions cement the progress made under President Trump and ensure future administrations cannot simply reverse course.
- Medicaid reform that prioritizes vulnerable Americans—seniors, low-income families, and the disabled—by ensuring Medicaid remains sustainable and focused on those in need, ends benefits for over a million illegal immigrants, and cracks down on waste and fraud.
With House passage secured, the bill now heads to the Senate.
