House Science, Space & Technology Committee Advances NASA Reauthorization Act of 2026 to Keep America Leading in Space
WASHINGTON, DC — This week, Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08), Chairman of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee, issued the following statement after the House Science, Space and Technology Committee passed the NASA Reauthorization Act of 2026, bipartisan legislation that reinforces America’s leadership in space, drives innovation in aeronautics and space technology, and supports the aerospace workforce building the future of exploration.
“America cannot be number one on Earth if we are number two in space. Not long ago, we depended on Russia to send our astronauts into orbit. Today, America is leading the world again,” said Congressman Haridopolos. “As Chairman of the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee and representative of Florida's Space Coast, I am proud to support the bipartisan NASA Reauthorization Act. Last year, Congress provided $10 billion for NASA, and this bill builds on that investment by strengthening core exploration and aeronautics missions, supporting commercial innovation, and recognizing the importance of our international partnerships as we continue to lead the space race.”
The NASA Reauthorization Act of 2026 reaffirms America’s commitment to human space exploration through the Artemis and the Moon-to-Mars programs, accelerates innovation in space and aeronautics technology, and strengthens the low-Earth orbit economy and aerospace workforce through expanded public-private partnerships and trusted international allies.
The legislation supports:
A steady cadence of Artemis missions and continued development of the Space Launch System and Orion
U.S. leadership in low-Earth orbit, including the transition from the International Space Station to commercial platforms
Breakthrough space technology and aeronautics research, including hypersonics and advanced air mobility
A balanced science portfolio guided by the National Academies’ decadal surveys
STEM education and workforce development, including Space Grant and skilled technical training programs
Strengthen cooperation between the U.S. and Taiwan as a critical democratic partner in the Indo-Pacific
The bill now advances in the legislative process as Congress works to ensure NASA remains focused, competitive, and positioned to lead the world in exploration, innovation, and discovery.
