WATCH: Rep. Haridopolos: Overspending and Failed Energy Policies Fueled Inflation

May 13, 2026

Washington, D.C. — Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08) delivered remarks during a House Financial Services Committee markup highlighting how government overspending, failed energy policies, and poor monetary decisions contributed to inflation and rising costs for American families, while emphasizing the need for strong congressional oversight and pro-growth economic policies.

“We all hate high gas prices. We all hate high interest rates. But the way to lower costs is not through politics—it is by increasing supply, strengthening American energy production, and putting more money back in people’s pockets,” said Congressman Haridopolos. “The American people deserve honest oversight, fiscal responsibility, and policies that actually lower costs for working families.”

Congressman Haridopolos pointed to his prior questioning of former Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who acknowledged that excessive government spending during the Biden Administration contributed to inflation and that mistakes on interest rates further worsened economic pressures facing Americans.

“As a former history teacher, I believe context matters. Both parties have made mistakes over the years, but the facts are clear: overspending by the Biden Administration fueled inflation, energy restrictions increased costs, and Americans are still paying the price,” Haridopolos added.
