Washington, D.C. — During today's House Science, Space and Technology Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing, Safeguarding Federal Research Funds: The False Claims Act's Role in Combating Grant Fraud, Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08) urged Department of Justice officials to continue investigating universities and research institutions who have failed to disclose foreign funding and affiliations, falsified research data, and failed to comply with federal grant and cybersecurity requirements.
“Taxpayers have the right to know that federal agencies are holding bad actors accountable and safeguarding public dollars. When people break the law, there must be strong penalties,” said Congressman Haridopolos. “Whether it is falsifying research data, manipulating grant applications, concealing foreign funding, or violating federal requirements, these actions undermine the integrity of federally funded research and erode public trust in our institutions.”
