The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has long been sold to the American public as a necessary watchdog against financial abuse. Its defenders argue that without it, consumers would be left at the mercy of powerful financial institutions. But they are ignoring the fact that consumer protection laws existed long before the CFPB was established.

Lawmakers, engineers, and members of the Port Authority provided an update on the monthslong Canaveral Harbor Sand Bypass project during a visit to Jetty Park on Thursday.
“It’s a bigger, better project,” senior project manager Chris Ren said.
This year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking a different approach to rebuilding the beaches. Instead of taking sand from offshore, they're taking sand from another part of the beach, north of the port, where there's too much sand surrounding the jetty.
INDIAN RIVER SHORES — U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos walked along the beach at Beachcomber Lane with Indian River County and Indian River Shores officials Tuesday. He viewed the recent Sector 4 dune-renourishment project, and assessed the current status of beaches across the county.

And she came away thoroughly impressed, she said, by what she saw at the Palm Bay campus of Pineapple Cove Classical Academy as she conducts a nationwide tour of different types of schools, studying best practices and innovation.
