Congress began grappling in earnest with the future of NASA’S Artemis program last week amid indications the moon may lose out to Mars under President Trump’s new administration.

The Space Coast’s new representative in the U.S. House, Mike Haridopolos, led the U.S. House Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee in a hearing weighing the rising costs of Artemis’ Space Launch System rocket against the threat of losing to China in a new race to return to the moon.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Health First nurse Judie Kent is being hailed as a hero after rushing to aid a motorcyclist who was seriously injured in a crash last Thursday.

Martin Johnson, a father of five, was on his way to work when a car attempting a U-turn struck him at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Masterson. The impact left him with a broken femur and multiple fractures.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, Congressman Mike Haridopolos hosted his first Telephone Town Hall with constituents.

The hour-long event drew an unprecedented 4,562 participants from across Brevard, Indian River, and Orange counties and provided an opportunity for residents to directly engage with their representatives on the issues that matter most to them.

The 8th Congressional District covers Brevard, Indian River, and part of Orange Counties.

Welcome to the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee’s first hearing of the 119th Congress.

I extend a warm welcome to Ranking Member Foushee and express my enthusiasm to work with both new and returning members of this subcommittee.

2026 will be a defining year for the legacy of the United States.

Next April, NASA is set to launch the Artemis 2 mission, sending American astronauts into orbit around the Moon for the first time in fifty years.

Representative Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) dismissed the "nonsensical" arguments Democrats made against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First, adding, "They are just upset that they lost the majority."

Host Carley Shimkus began by playing several clips of Democratic Congressmen during the Sunday news shows, including Representatives Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Eugene Vindman (D-VA), and Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). Rep. Vindman, in particular, said DOGE was instituting a "reign of terror" across the federal government.

Representative Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) recently addressed the House Finance Committee in favor of two pieces of legislation: one holding China accountable for currency manipulation and another protecting small businesses from regulations that impose unnecessary costs.

H.R. 692, the China Exchange Rate Transparency Act, requires the U.S. Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to demand greater oversight of Chinese currency exchange rate practices.
