BREVARD COUNTY — Mike Haridopolos of Indian Harbor Beach in Brevard County officially took the oath of office Jan. 3, becoming the new U.S. Representative for Florida’s 8th District. Succeeding Bill Posey of Rockledge, who retired after eight terms, Haridopolos secured his seat in the November election with 62.25% of the vote.

Newly sworn in U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos, an Indian Harbour Beach Republican, used his first chance to address the House chamber to extoll the space program in his home of Brevard County.

The Representative of Florida’s 8th Congressional District, located on the Space Coast, said he’s thrilled the space program is gaining momentum, with more and more liftoffs from Cape Canaveral. It was his first congressional address in the House since being elected Nov. 5.

The Space Coast’s new congressman wants the U.S. to set bold goals for exploration beyond our Earth, believing the country’s potential will take Americans sky-high – literally.

The result in the media was as expected, with liberal outlets either decrying the idea as imperialist and expansionist, or downplaying it as unserious and pointless. This attitude, however, could not be more wrong. It would be foolish to dismiss the possibility of acquiring Greenland, and there are many good reasons to take President Trump’s idea seriously.

The House Financial Services Committee has chosen leadership with an eye toward digital asset regulation.

Rep. French Hill (R-Ark.) announced the new appointments Thursday (Jan. 9), promising to “right-size the regulatory system for particularly community banks,” and “create a regulatory framework for digital assets that will protect investors and consumers.”

In addition, Hill said the committee would “ensure agencies are focused on their core statutory directed missions” and not political agendas.
